More Entrepreneur Programmes To Assist Chow Kit Kids Under KL Krash Pad
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 23 (Bernama) -- The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry plans to come up with more programmes, especially entrepreneur programmes, for Chow Kit teenagers under the KL Krash Pad (KLKP) project.
Its deputy secretary-general Harjeet Singh said there had been positive results since the launching of KLKP, a youth hangout centre located in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman to assist social high-risk teenagers in Chow Kit.
"Among the programmes in the pipeline are those involving economic activities with the hope of creating young entrepreneurs among them," he told reporters after officiating at the KLKP Capoeira Festival, here, Sunday.
At the function, 35 Chow Kit children, aged between five to 17, were presented with the Capoeira belt. Capoerira is an Afro-Brazilian art form that combines martial arts, sports, music and dance.
Harjeet said under the entrepreneur programme, the teenagers would be trained on how to start their own business on a small scale, such as designing and printing business cards and banners.
He said the ministry also planned to conduct a photography course and other soft-skill activities for teenagers at the KLKP, a pilot project launched by the ministry with Yayasan Salam Malaysia in September last year.
The ministry also planned to expand the programme to other socially high risked areas, he added.
"We hope that programmes like this will continue to be organised to help street children. We will talk with other non-governmental organisations to open up places like this in other high-risk areas."
The KLKP was set up to create a safe zone, especially for children who come from low-income or stateless families and who are easily exposed to sexual abuse, drugs, HIV and other menace, and the centre is to assist and protect children in high-risk areas and address issues faced by them.
