MoU to produce more Malay automotive entrepreneurs
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 13 (Bernama) -- The Rural and Regional Development Ministry signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with several agencies to produce more automotive entrepreneurs among Malay youths who drop out of secondary school.
Its minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said they would work with the Education Ministry and agencies concerned to select students who failed in their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) for practical skills training in the tyre and automotive industry.
The collaboration was sealed through an MoU between the ministry's agency Pembina, Melaka State Foundation and tyre company Kualiti Rahmat Sdn Bhd.
Pembina and the foundation were represented by their chief executive officers Mohamad Yahya and Datuk Saroni Judi respectively, while Kualiti Rahmat's managing director Radzuan Tahir signed on its behalf.
"Before this, the college graduates could only work in the tyre shops but the MoU will enable trainees from six state foundation colleges to attend a one- year course in tyre and automotive maintenance," he said after the signing of the MoU at the Mara headquarters, here, Tuesday.
Kualiti Rahmat will act as mentor and vendor to the trainees and the training covers entrepreneurial aspects such as on how to obtain loans from Mara and PUNB and other related agencies.
Shafie who had also received a courtesy call from Ireland's Minister of State for Training and Skills, Ciaran Cannon, said Mara would increase the number of students sent to Ireland for other fields of study apart from medicine.
