Minimum Wage To Be Introduced Soon
KUALA LUMPUR, April 29 (Bernama) -- A minimum wage will be introduced soon for all workers, Human Resources Minister Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam said today.
The motion to set the minimum wage for all sectors of employment will be tabled in the next sitting of Parliament, he said in his Workers Day message.
He described minimum wage as the 2011 "present for workers" whom he said the government regarded as a permanent national asset.
"Implementing minimum wage will raise the standard of workers and enable them to overcome various problems (arising) before this," he said.
Subramaniam said that his ministry upheld the "decent work" agenda as a strategy for the development and management of human resources of world standard.
"In this regard, the government will continue to strive to increase job opportunities, guarantee workers' rights, strengthen the social security net, preserve industrial relations, promote health and safety practices and develop competitive human resource," he added. --BERNAMA
