Manufacturing sales up 6.3 percent in Nov 2011
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 10 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's manufacturing sales posted a year-on-year growth of 6.3% in November 2011 to RM47.6 billion as compared to RM44.8 billion in the same month the previous year.
Month-on-month, the sales value decreased 7.5% or RM3.9 billion, the Statistics Department said in statement today.
The sales value in October 2011 was a revised positive 11.8% year-on-year to record RM51.5 billion.
The year-on-year increase in the sales value in November 2011 was generated by the growth in 81 industries or 70.4% out of 115 industries covered in the survey.
The five major industries whose sales value increased significantly were the manufacture of refined petroleum products (30.7%), manufacture of basic iron and steel products (47.5%), manufacture of other chemical products not elsewhere classified (65.2%), manufacture of electricity distribution and control apparatus (67.5%), and manufacture of fertilizers and nitrogen compounds (85.7%).
The month-on-month decrease in the sales value was the result of a drop in the sales value of 72 industries or 62.6% out of 115.
The five major industries whose sales value decreased were the manufacture of refined petroleum products (10.2%), manufacture of television and radio receivers, sound or video recording or reproducing, apparatus, and associated goods (19.1%), manufacture of semi-conductor devices (15.3%), manufacture of computer and computer peripherals (13.5%), and manufacture of motor vehicles (14.9%).
Meanwhile, a total of 1,004,325 persons were employed in the manufacturing sector in November 2011, a decrease of 268 persons or 0.03% compared with the preceding month.
The number of workers employed increased by 11,670 persons or 1.2% in November 2011 as compared to the 992,655 in November 2010.
Total employees in October 2011 was a revised positive 1.5% year-on-year to 1,004,593 workers.
Salaries and wages paid in November 2011 increased 1.4% or RM32.1 million month-on-month to RM2,348.4 million.
Average salaries and wages paid per employee in November 2011 increased 1.4% month-on-month to RM2,338.
Productivity or average sales value per employee in November 2011 decreased 7.5% month-on-month to RM47,392.
