Malaysian companies woo Indian buyers at Showcase Malaysia expo
MUMBAI, Oct 12 (Bernama) -- Over 40 Malaysian companies are showcasing their products and services at the three-day "Showcase Malaysia" expo beginning today in India's financial capital, signaling the growing interest in the economically-robust South Asian market.
Small-and-medium scale companies are taking part in the exhibition organised by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade).
"The staging of this Showcase Malaysia in Mumbai is intended to enhance trade and investment between India and Malaysia in the light of our new alliance through bilateral and multilateral FTAs (free trade agreement)," Matrade chairman Datuk Mah Siew Keong said at the opening of the mega event.
Speaking to Bernama on the sidelines of the expo, Mah said Malaysian companies had successfully made a mark among Indian buyers as Malaysian-made goods were in popular demand.
"Many Indian companies and consumers view Malaysia as a producer of quality and high-tech products, as good as European products, and also reliability of supply. There is trust in Malaysian products now," he added.
At the Bombay Convention and Exhibition Centre, an assortment of companies from logistics, light foodstuff, wood products, oil and gas to automotive producers are wooing Indian buyers.
The huge participation, Mah said was clear indication that the interests of Malaysian companies were growing in India, which was also propelling two-way trade.
India-Malaysia bilateral trade stood at US$7.2 billion (RM23 billion) in the first half of the year, up 36 per cent, compared with the same period last year.
"We expect trade between Malaysia and India to double in the next five years, this is achievable. There is tremendous potential and I would like more Malaysian companies to look at India," he added.
