Malaysian SMEs To Benefit From EU Grant For Promoting Biomass Projects

PUTRAJAYA, June 1 (Bernama) -- The European Union (EU)will consider providing a grant of two million euros to 500 Malaysian Small andMedium Enterprises (SMEs) with the aim of promoting biomass projects.

Ambassador and Head of Delegation of the EU to Malaysia,Vincent Piket said the presentation of the grant would be implemented by aconsortium of public and private sector organisations from Malaysia, inpartnership with those in Europe.

"It will start soon. The first phase will focus onawareness among the 500 SMEs around the country. Phase two involves theimplementation of concrete biomass projects by the most promising SMEs,"he told reporters.

Piket was met by reporters after delivering his welcomeremarks at the EU-Malaysia Cooperation in Green Technology workshop here.

A team of green technology specialists from the EU metwith their Malaysian counterparts and government officials for a two-day session,to share experiences and discuss greater cooperation on a wide range ofenvironmental issues.

The meetings are part of an EU-funded project that aimsto enhance business cooperation between it and Malaysia in the services sector.

In the first year of the project, the EU and theEU-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EUMCCI), will focus on boostingties in environmental services and in specfic green technology.-- BERNAMA
