The fair is the world's biggest trade event for the IT
industry.
For the Malaysian exhibitors, the jingle of money in the form of the promise of
good business, has been sweet music to their ears.
Of the 15 exhibitors, nine were under the wing of the Malaysian External Trade
Development Corporation (Matrade). The rest were at the fair on their own
initiative.
According to Sabri Abd. Rahman, Malaysia's senior trade commissioner in
Frankfurt, the exhibitors under the Matrade umbrella achieved sales worth some
RM11.5 million.
He also said another RM38.7 million worth of potential business could be
achieved as a result of their participation and the contacts established at the
CeBIT show.
Sabri said that he had compiled the figures based on the feedback received from
the exhibitors.
Describing the response received by the companies at the fair as encouraging,
he highlighted that Malaysian IT products were of good quality, conforming to
international standards.
"Malaysia-made tablet PCs, 3D projection software as well as the hand-held
smart card readers were the most sought after products," Sabri told
Bernama.
The range of products showcased by Malaysian exhibitors included software like
3D solutions for interactive TV programming, hardware such as tablet PCs, CPUs,
smart-card readers and voice recorders.
They also offered OEM manufacturing services for all kinds of hardware, product
design and biometric technology and software testing for IT-dependent products.
Sabri said all the companies had expressed their intention to participate again
with Matrade at the CeBIT Fair in 2012.
The exhibitors also gave him the contacts they had established at the fair to
enable Matrade to help them in the follow-up action.
"We need more SMEs to venture abroad to participate in shows such as the
CeBIT, to gain exposure to the international business culture and worldwide
trading practices," he said.
