Malaysia's young entrepreneurs should learn from Silicon Valley, says Najib
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 -- Young Malaysian entrepreneurs must take advantage of opportunities to begin their entrepreneurial journey while learning from the spirit of US' Silicon Valley.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said it was important that they be as creative as possible and be willing to take up the challenges to unleash that creativity.
"Set your mind open, that you can do it. That is the kind of spirit that Silicon Valley's entrepreneurs have.
"It is the kind of spirit that will lead you to becoming successful entrepreneurs in the future," he said in a video clip during the launch of the inaugural "Silicon Valley Comes to Malaysia" symposium here today.
Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah officiated the launch on behalf of Najib.
Silicon Valley is home to many of the world's largest technology corporations and entrepreneurs such as Google, Yahoo, Youtube and eBay.
Later, at a press conference, Saifuddin said, the two-day symposium would be a good platform for students and young entrepreneurs to learn the recipe for success from Silicon Valley's entrepreneurs.
"I think it is most important that we learn from our friends from Silicon Valley at the symposium," he said.
Among the Silicon Valley's big names participating in the symposium are co-founder of YouTube, Jawed Karim, co-founder of DipDive.com, Steve Koskie, and co-founder of LinkedIn, Konstantin Guericke.
The symposium, organised by Multimedia Development Corp and Global Entrepreneurship Sdn Bhd, aims to provide opportunities for Malaysian entrepreneurs to learn critical skills from some of the best global minds in the business.
