MOSTI Approves 4,435 Projects Worth RM2.8 Billion
PETALING JAYA, Aug 13 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) has approved 4,435 projects worth RM2.8 billion as of May this year under its research, development and commercialisation funds, its Deputy Minister Fadillah Yusof said.
The funds are part of the RM3 billion allocated under the Ninth Malaysia Plan to finance research and development activities.
"From the amount, 1,903 projects or 43 per cent of them have been completed with 991 intellectual property rights registered. A total of 294 projects or 15.4 per cent of the projects have been completed and successfully commercialised with sales worth RM3.2 billion," Fadillah said.
He said this after launching a television reality programme entitled: "Ideas: Challenges for Malaysian Inventors", and witnessing the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Proton Holdings Bhd and Sirim Bhd for the sponsporship of the programme, here, Friday.
Fadillah said MOSTI was looking at raising the commercialisation of research and development works by 20 per cent under the 10th Malaysia Plan compared with 15.4 per cent rise seen under the 9MP.
Meanwhile, the reality television programme, launched in conjunction with Malaysia Innovative 2010 year, would be broadcast by TV3 beginning September 25 to support and encourage creativity and innovatin among the Malaysian public.
The 10-episode programme, which will feature 24 participants under a challenge for the best invention or innovation, will be aired every Saturday at 7pm.
Fadillah said the programme was a result of joint efforts between the government and the private sector to find the best innovation from the grassroots which can be commercialised for the local or international market.
Preliminary rounds to choose the participants for the programme will be held from September 25 in Kuantan, Kota Kinabalu (October 2), Shah Alam (October 9) and in Kuching on October 16.
