MITI Negotiating For Small And Medium Enterprises To Raise Income

KEPALA BATAS, May 2 (Bernama) -- The Ministry ofInternational Trade and Industry is having discussions with the FinanceMinistry to get additional allocation to enhance Small and Medium Enterprisesto boost the national economy.

Deputy minister of the ministry, Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir,said the additional allocation was to aid development of the SMEs especially interms of income and marketing of new products.

"This represents continous efforts of the ministryto harness the best returns for the SMEs as we are in an economic return,"he told reporters after closing a youth exposition here on Sunday.

The exposition organised by the Tasek Gelugor YouthMovement Economic and Entrepreneurship Bureau is for 10 days beginning April23-May 2 involving 73 entrepreneurs.

Mukhriz said in the first quarter of the year Malaysia'strade had expanded well and the SMEs had contributed to the economy.

On the exposition, he said it was a good step and addedto moves to develop SMEs.

"They can learn to market their products in a largerway and gauge customer needs and hence promote their material," he said.-- BERNAMA
