MIFF 2011 To Generate Sales Of US$800 Million

KUALA LUMPUR, March 1 (Bernama) -- The five-day Malaysian International Furniture Fair (MIFF) 2011, which started today, is expected to generate sales of US$800 million compared with US$755 million (US$1=RM3.01) last year.

MIFF Sdn Bhd managing director, Datuk Dr Tan Chin Huat, said about 7,000 international buyers were expected to visit the fair.

"MIFF, in its 17th year, takes pride in providing an effective export business platform for the Malaysian furniture industry as well as overseas manufacturers to grow their businesses.

"The strong line-up of exhibitors and international buyers is a testament of MIFF's reputation as a top 10 furniture tradeshow in the world," he said at the opening of the fair here Tuesday.

Tan said the fair would also feature highlights like the Ideation Award 2011 and a series of seminars including a presentation by award-winning Swiss furniture designer, Daniel Korb.

He said Korb would be sharing his work experience in the fields of architecture and furniture design.

"We urge exhibitors to make full use of all activities featured at MIFF 2011," he said.

MIFF 2011 will showcase top furniture exhibitors from Malaysia as well as from China, Indonesia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, India, South Korea, US, Egypt and Japan.

The exhibition is held at two venues -- KL Convention Centre and Putra World Trade Centre.
