MCA To Set Up One-Stop Centre To Help SMEs

KUALA LUMPUR, March 5 (Bernama) -- MCA is setting up a one- stop centre to help small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in answering the frequently asked questions and to address the day-to-day concerns of SMEs.

"All the groundwork has been done and we are collaborating with relevant ministries and agencies such as MITI (Ministry of International Trade and Industry)," MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat said Friday.

"Now we are waiting for the greenlight to put it into service," he said at press conference here after launching the three-day MCA's SME Exhibition 2010 and Talks organised by the Economic Caucus of the MCA Consultative Council in collaboration with the SMI Association of Malaysia.

The event attracted the participation of 18 exhibitors from government agencies and non-governmental organisations, including Bank Negara Malaysia, SME Corporation and Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade).

Theme of the event was "Stimulating SME Growth" and it is aimed at assisting SMEs to overcome the main challenges in the industry that are closely linked to financing and marketplace issues.

Ong said the exhibition and talks were an initiative by Economic Caucus of the MCA Consultative Council following feedback from the SMI Association and some micro-enterprise operators.

"We are going to address the primary concerns of stakeholders through a series of knowledge and information sharing in the talks later. Various exhibitors are also ready to impart the latest input and information on SMEs to the stakeholders," he said.

Ong also witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Kojadi Institute and Sage UBS Sdn Bhd to provide computerised accounting-related courses. He said the MoU will help to meet market demand for accounting personnel as there is currently a demand for between 20,000 and 30,000 accounting personnel in the country.

Sage UBS has been offering practical and localised accounting solutions to over 135,000 customers in Malaysia since 1988. -- BERNAMA
