Local SMEs Urged To Take Advantage Of Shanghai Xijiao International Trade Centre
KUALA LUMPUR, June 2 (Bernama) -- Malaysian small and medium enterprises andHalal food companies have been urged to use the Shanghai Xijiao InternationalAgricultural Products Exposition & Trade Centre (Xijiao International) as aplatform to expand their market share to the 1.9 billion population of China.
Asia Shangtex Sdn Bhd's President, Datuk KW Chee saidpriority will be given to Malaysian companies which have high qualityagricultural products and stringent Halal certification.
"Witha large Muslim population of more than 100 million, there is a huge opportunityfor the loal companies to cater to the needs of this specific market," hesaid during a media briefing here today on the Xijiao International tradecentre.
AsiaShangtex is a joint venture company with Shanghai Hu-Shang AgriculturalProducts Co. Ltd, which has been granted a 20-year lease to operate the Aseansection of the Xijiao International trade centre.
AsiaShangtex is given full authority by the Shanghai local government to select anyagricultureal company with the capability to supply to the trade centre.
The XijiaoInternational is a brand new 2.0 billion yuan trade centre set up by Shanghaigovernment solely to serve the needs of the domestic and international markets,as well as for wholesale and retail purpose, with a floor space of 450,000square metres.
It isscheduled to commence by end-July this year.
"Malaysian companies previously doing business in China will findthe process of doing business at Xijiao International much more convenient andcost effective," Chee said.
He said norental fee is required but the participating company only has to pay a small amountas listing fee.
Chee saidall trading will be carried out on a safe and secure platform without middlemenor agents to ensure participating companies have a hassle free and pleasantexperience throughout the entire process from shipping to collecting payment.
"Malaysian companies not only have the opportunity to positionthemselves in China but can also use the trade centre as a gateway to expandtheir products in the Asean region," he said, adding that Asia Shangtexexpected about 50 million people to visit the trade centre every year.
Apart fromMalaysia, Asia Shangtex will also bring in agricultural products fromPhilippines, Vietnam, Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar, Laos andCambodia to the trade centre.
Xijiao Internationalis backed by eight shareholders -- Bright Food Group Co. Ltd, ShanghaiVegetable Group, Shanghai Cao An Vegetable Basket Co. Ltd, Shanghai ShengyuanInvestment Company, Shanghai Dajiang Co. Ltd, Shanghai Fruit Company, ShanghaiXijiao International Agricultural Product Development Company and GreenlandGroup.--BERNAMA
