Investpenang To Set Up Penang Investment Tourism Office In Singapore
PENANG, Feb 8 (Bernama) -- Invest-in-Penang Bhd (InvestPenang) will set up the Penang Investment Tourism Office (PITO) in Singapore soon, in an effort to draw tourism and investment to the state.
InvestPenang's Executive Committee Chairman, Datuk Lee Kah Choon said the office, is expected to operate within the first half of this year. "We are now looking for a strategic location on Beach Road in Singapore," he told a news conference here Monday.
He also stated that InvestPenang would work with a local company to establish the office, as the cost of opening one in Singapore, is high. "In this way, we can be a sub-tenant and reduce rental and operational costs," he explained. According to Lee, only a staff would be stationed in the office there.
He said InvestPenang would also establish a Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs)Market Advisory, Resource and Training (SMART) Centre in Penang. This is to assist SMEs with market access, business advisory, market information and resources as well as training and development.
He indicated that the centre would also be opened in the first half of the year. Lee said the opening of PITO and SMART was part of a restructuring process being undertaken by InvestPenang, in expanding its role to include the promotion and facilitation of investments in services sectors like properties, tourism products, healthcare and education. -- BERNAMA
