International Shoe Festival Targets 80,000 Visitors This Year
KUALA LUMPUR, April 4 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia International Shoe Festival (MSIF) 2011, which begins on April 7 and themed "Walking in Unity - Sole of the Nation", will feature more local entrepreneurs.
Malaysian Footwear Manufacturers Association (MFMA) president Tony Ting, a joint organiser of the festival to be held at Hall 2 of the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), said the 166 exhibition lots expected to attract about 80,000 visitors.
He said the festival drew 45,000 visitors and recorded RM5 million in sales when it was held for the first time last year.
"Among the local shoe brands confirmed taking part are Zang Toi, Larris, Carlo Rino, Paulo Moda, Nose, Bill Keith, Dr Cardin dan Vern''s," he said at a news conference, here, today.
Also present was Tourism Ambassador and world-renowned shoe designer Prof Datuk Dr Jimmy Choo.
Choo will be displaying several exclusive shoe collections at a specially built gallery named the Sogno Gallery.
In conjunction with the four-day festival, Malaysia will also host the 30th International Footwear Conference on April 8 at the Tun Hussein Onn Hall, PWTC.
Ting said the conference had drawn the participation of 12 countries including the United States, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, India, China and Vietnam, and would focus on latest developments in the shoe industry at the global level.
Besides that, a Baba Nyonya shoe made of 130 kilogrammes of chocolate measuring 10x4 feet will be exhibited and registered in the Malaysia Book of Records as the biggest chocolate shoe.
Other activities include a Mystery Shoe Box displaying a collection of shoes designed with the changing times, including a pair of 100-year-old shoes.
Ting said the festival would only be open to commercial buyers and VIPs on April 7, and to the public from April 8 to 10. -- BERNAMA
