Halimah Keeps To Traditional Way Of Making Rempeyek
KULIM, Aug 23 (Bernama) -- While others have resorted to modern ways of making rempeyek, Halimah Che Rus, 46, from Kampung Syed Sheh here keeps to the traditional way, as preferred by most of her clients.
"I'm not able to make much, but able to meet the order for about 50,000 pieces as ordered by my regular customers," she added.
Known as "Mah Ngah" to her customers, Halimah, whose husband, Zainol Che Mat, 71, is a retired teacher, has been making rempeyek on a commercial scale since five years ago.
It pays off for her earnings has enabled her to buy a RM25,000 used-Perodua Kancil car, for which she paid in cash!
Halimah said she also received orders from government departments and non-governmental organisations, as well as from Kelantan, Sabah and Sarawak.
"Actually, I received orders for 80,000 pieces, but because I'm short of helpers, I could only make 50,000 pieces," she added.
She said she would have to spend about 10 hours a day, frying between 700 to 800 rempeyek, to be able to get the orders ready before the coming Aidilfitri.
