Giant Opens Superstore In Penampang

PENAMPANG, April 15 (Bernama) -- Giant Megalong, a worldclass  superstore costing RM20million to establish, opened its doors on Thursday to Sabahans in theDonggongon township here.

The town is in the heartland of the Kadazandusuncommunity in the state.

Marketing Director of GSH Retail (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd HoMun Hao said Giant Megalong had created an additional 300 jobs, mostly forlocals.

He added, it had also generated opportunities for tradersand small and medium enterprises (SMEs), to supply goods and services,especially food and fresh produce.

"Our investment is contributing further to theeconomy of the state, particularly in the agro-based and services sectors. Bothindustries are being promoted by the government," he said in conjunctionwith the opening of the superstore.

Giant, the anchor tenant in the five-storey Megalongshopping complex, offers over 100,000 items of fresh food, daily essentials andconsumer goods.

"In addition, to providing consumers with value andvariety, we are also giving priority to local suppliers in sourcing for nearly90 per cent of the food items sold in the store," he said.

Ho said GCH Retail (Malaysia) currently operates 17 otherGiant hypermarkets, superstores and supermarkets in Sabah.

He said the Giant Megalong has a retail space of about25,000 sq ft and is not only world-class in design but incorporates the mostmodern and pleasant shopping experience.

"Apart from the comfortable and spacious storelayout, there are over 700 free parking bays available," he added.

To celebrate the store's opening, Giant has lined upexciting promotions such as the 10 cent specials and many other special offersuntil the weekend.

Together with the four existing stores in Sarawak, Giantnow operates a total of 20 hypermarkets, superstores and supermarkets in EastMalaysia.

Ho said there are 105 Giant outlets throughout thecountry, of which 35 are categorised as hypermarkets, 20 superstores and 50supermarkets-- BERNAMA
