Frim gets international Socrates Award for Best Enterprise 2011

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 14 (Bernama) -- The Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (Frim) received the 'International Socrates Award or Best Enterprise Award (Applied Research and Scientific Achievements) 2011' from the European Business Assembly (EBA) last Monday at the Oxford Town Hall, Oxford, United Kingdom.

Frim said in a statement Wednesday that at the same event, FRIM Director-General Datuk Dr Abdul Latif Mohmod was also given the International Socrates Award for European Manager of the Year 2011.

"Since the Oxford Summit of Leaders was created 47 years ago, Frim and Abdul Latif became the first recipients from Malaysia.

The award is based on the criteria of reliability, consistency and excellent achievements and professionalism in Research and Development (R&D) in the fields of forestry and tropical forest products," the statement said.

Abdul Latif was awarded following his initiatives in changing the system and work tradition leading to the transformation of the research delivery system and scientific professionalism in awareness on the environment and generation of the economy from the country's R&D enabling the surge in performance and position of the Frim in the eyes of the world.

He received a medal and certificate given away by Christina Howell from the Chamber of Commerce/European Business Assembly and Paul Briggs from the International Socrates Committee Award.

EBA is an independent corporate body set up for social, economic and humanitarian cooperation and as a non-governmental organisation (NGO) to supervise the transformation through experience and the latest practice.

Recently, Frim received the Celebrity Brand Award for the category 'Celebrity Education' 2011 Best Brand in the field of Forestry and Environment Conservation.
