Fama To Place Its Entrepreneurs At National Food Terminal

IPOH, April 30 (Bernama) -- Beginning June, the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) will place its entrepreneurs at the National Food Terminal (NFT) in Simpang Pulai here to overcome the lukewarm response towards the project.

By taking that move, Fama chairman Datuk Paduka Badruddin Amiruldin said, the NFT would become the one-stop centre for the northern region to market products of small and medium-scale enterprises (SME).

"We will gather all agencies under the agriculture and agro-based industry ministry at the NFT so that it can be managed as a wholesale and retail centre," he told reporters after opening the Perak Malaysia Malay Chamber of Commerce’s 35th annual general meeting here today.

He said a committee comprising representatives from the ministry and the state government would be set up to implement the plan.

"Apart from becoming the centre for processing and selling of SME products, we are also optimistic of turning the NFT into a tourist destination," he said.

The NFT, which was built at a cost of RM114 million on a 20-hectare site in Simpang Pulai, has been operational since last August.

However, only 120 out of 394 available lots are active. -- BERNAMA
