KUALA LUMPUR, March 7 (Bernama) -- Deals worth RM54million, involving Malaysian companies, were negotiated at the first ever India-Asean Trade Fair which ended in New Delhi on Sunday.
Many one-on-one business meetings were held during the
five-day event which began on March 2 and several companies interviewed
confirmed the vibrance and the opportunities in the market.
Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) said India's high
growth was the major pull factor that drew Malaysian companies to participate
in the trade fair.
Fifty-one Malaysian companies participated in the event including large
corporations such as UEM, IJM, Proton, Perodua and Sime Engineering, it said in
a statement today.
"The objective of our participation is to raise the awareness of Indian
companies on Malaysia as a manufacturing hub and a world class service
provider.
"We intend to organise more events in India to bring the business
communities closer together. This will include specialised marketing missions
focusing on specific sectors such as oil and gas, construction and related
sectors and automotive," Matrade Deputy Chief Executive Officer Dr Wong
Lai Sum was quoted as saying in the statement.
