Car and Motor Workshops to be Upgraded

BERA, April 23 (Bernama) -- The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry, through the Companies Commission of Malaysia (CCM), is setting up a special fund for car and motor repair workshop owners to upgrade their premises to make them look clean and beautiful.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, said that for a start, 50 workshops would be chosen to be given loans from the fund for the purpose.

The programme would later on be expanded nationwide in stages, he told reporters after opening a CCM programme at Felda Mayam, Bera, here today.

However, he said, the amount of the fund had yet to be decided.

Ismail Sabri said the programme would be similar with the ministry's programme to upgrade retail shops owned by cooperatives which was being carried out currently.

"A total of 24 old retail shops have been upgraded and replaced with new ones.

"Previously, these shops make sales of RM1,500 to RM2,000 a day, but now the income has increased to RM4,000 to RM5,000 daily," he added.

He said the government was targetting to upgrade 500 retail shops by end of the year. -- BERNAMA
