Capsuco, Sole Malaysian SME To Get World Bank Unit Global Award
KUALA LUMPUR, April 28 (Bernama) -- Capsuco Enterprise, a local online company dealing in art, graphics and apparel, has become the only Malaysian company to be selected among 50 top small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) in a global competition run by a unit of the World Bank this year for innovation and entrepreneurship.
Known as InfoDev Top 50, it was organised by InfoDev, a technology and innovation-led development finance programme run by the World Bank and International Finance Corporation.
Alvin Soon, marketing manager of Capsuco, told Bernama today that the start-up company, which has about 10 employees, was pleasantly surprised at being chosen from among 20,000 SMEs around the world.
Capsuco runs a unique design online portal and a business division that provides customised clothing and apparel like t-shirts to corporations, schools, clubs and organisations. Its corporate clients include Mitsubishi Motors and TBWA, an advertising company.
Besides bulk orders, the company also accepts orders from individuals where its t-shirts sell from about RM30 each, including shipping to anywhere in the world.
"Our online portal allows independent graphic artists to gather in an online community and share their artworks for t-shirts and other customisable products.
“The artists receive commissions whenever their artwork is sold via customizable merchandise such as t-shirts," Soon said.
Capsuco has a list of 200 artists, mostly from Malaysia, who post their designs on its website, www.capsuco.com.
Soon said Capsuco’s establishment meant that it also provided an alternative source of income for artists to earn their living.
He said the company, which has about less than 10 employees doing the printing work, was officially launched last July although operations started about two years ago.
Capsuco uses a high quality water proof printing ink on their 100 per cent cotton t-shirt. Each t-shirt is individually coated at the end of each printing to give the printed graphics a lasting impact.
As part of it being chosen, Capsuco’s founders and managers have been invited to take part in the 4th Global Forum on Innovation & Technology Entrepreneurship in Helsinki, Finland from May 30 to June 3.
"I am excited about this as we will be introduced to mentors, potential investors, corporate partners and like-minded entrepreneurs," said Soon, adding that Capsuco would also be setting up a both during the forum to showcase its business process and products. -- BERNAMA
