CIDB Targets To Train 11,640 Small Contractors

KUCHING, July 20 (Bernama) -- The Construction Industry  Development Board Malaysia (CIDB) aimed to train 11,640 small contractors on the construction industry systems this year.

Its chairman, Tan Sri Jamilus Hussein said the move was part of efforts to accelerate the construction sector in the country.

The CIDB will also train 155,550 construction workers on safety and health, skills, accreditation, supervisory and managerial aspects, he told reporters after opening the state Regional Construction Week 2010 here Tuesday.

He said the CIDB welcomed workers and unemployed youths to enrol in various training programmes offered.

In another development, he said the CIDB required contractors in lower classes to attend the Continous Contractor Development Programme (CCD) as a condition to renew their licence since July.

"They need to score at least 10 points to enable them to renew their licence and this will not be a burden to them," he added. — Bernama
