Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Must Not Concentrate Mainly On Food Products

KUALA LUMPUR, April 29 (Bernama) -- Small and mediumscale Bumiputera entrepreneurs should not mainly focus on food products so thatthey can penetrate foreign hypermarkets in the country.

Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism MinisterDatuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said Bumiputera entrepreneurs must divert theirfocus on more innovative and creative products because foods products have alimited quota in the market.

He added that hypermarkets have also set a quota or limiton food products to provide a balance in the sales of other products forconsumers.

"So, to penetrate or be listed in hypermarkets, weneed to look for products that have less competition but relevant to consumers.

"For example, producing herbal based insect sprays...it will be a new local product that can be easily accepted," he toldreporters after opening the Produk Malaysia Citarasa Kita and Low PriceCampaign here Thursday.

Ismail said 11,000 local products have been able to makeit into the list of hypermarkets and the government have initiated efforts toincrease it by another 30 per cent.-- BERNAMA
