Boeing Explores New Collaboration Opportunities With Malaysian Industry
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 21 (Bernama) -- Boeing and key Malaysian industry organisations hosted a conference for local small and medium enterprises (SMEs) outside the aerospace industry early this week in Kuala Lumpur to discuss the advantages of collaboration.
Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is exploring mutually beneficial business opportunities across a broad range of Malaysian SMEs as BDS looks to expand its industry relationships in support of offset programs associated with future defense product sales to the Malaysian government.
Boeing completed a US$271 million industrial return program associated with Malaysia's 1993 order of eight F/A-18D Hornets three years ahead of schedule, and also has built longstanding relationships with Malaysian industry through its Commercial Airplanes business.
"As the world's largest aerospace company, Boeing is well positioned to provide a tailored offset program that will bring long-term benefits to the government, industry and people of Malaysia," said Gwen Kopsie, BDS director of International Strategic Partnerships in a statement today.
"We will introduce new technologies and spur the development of Malaysian SMEs by drawing on the breadth and depth of Boeing, from traditional aerospace work, to research and development and a broad range of internal services that support Boeing operations, as well as opportunities with our extended network of suppliers.
These opportunities will grow as Boeing continues to expand its product line and services to meet emerging customer needs."
The Small and Medium Enterprises Corporation Malaysia (SME Corp Malaysia), Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade), Malaysian Industrial Development Authority (Mida) and Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) all served as co-sponsors of the conference.
"This forum is in line with the Malaysian government's agenda to help SMEs and other companies identify new market opportunities in order to facilitate the transformation of the economy and private sector-led growth," said SME Corp
Malaysia Chairman Datuk Ir (Dr) Mohamed Al Amin Abdul Majid.
"Conferences such as this one provide Malaysian industry a better look at what Boeing can bring to them and help Boeing understand the broader capabilities of Malaysian SMEs."
SME Corp Malaysia is the central coordinating agency for SME development programs offered by ministries and agencies under the National SME Development Council.
SME Corp Malaysia disseminates information on development programs and access to financing through local financial institutions, and provides business advisory services to SMEs at One Referral Centre offices throughout Malaysia.
