Bank Muamalat To Open Six Branches This Year

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 19 (Bernama) -- Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd plans to open six new branches nationwide this year, said its chief executive officer, Datuk Mohd Redza Shah Abdul Wahid.

He said the new branches, which would cost up to RM1.5 million each, would make it convenient for the customers in dealing with the bank.

Currently, the bank has 56 branches, including one in Sabah and three in Sarawak, he said.

"The bank would open two new branches in Sabah and four in Terengganu, Kelantan and Klang Valley," he said at the 'Special Session with Chief Executive Officer' here today.

He said Islamic banking made up 20 per cent of the nation's conventional banking industry.

The special session is organised by the economic bureau of the Malaysian Islamic Business Council (DPIM) with the cooperation of Persatuan Pemaju Hartanah Bumiputera Selangor.

It aims to promote networking between Islamic banking authorities, especially Bank Muamalat, and entrepreneurs.

DPIM has over 50,000 members nationwide and aims to organise more programmes to create awareness of the importance of Islamic banking.
