BSN Sets Aside RM23 Mln For Micro Financing In Sabah
KOTA KINABALU, March 1 (Bernama) -- Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) has set aside RM23 million for micro financing in Sabah this year.
Deputy Chief Executive for Consumer Banking and Business Development Norazian Ahmad Tajuddin said this was part of the bank's contribution towards supporting the government's efforts to elevate the quality of life of the Sabah people as well as helping to stimulate domestic economy.
She said that since the micro credit scheme was introduced in Sabah in 2008, BSN had disbursed about RM9 million in loans, benefiting at least 700 small entreprenuers in the state.
"We are going to increase the volume of the micro financing loans for Sabah this year up to RM23 million and we are trying to reach out potential customers especially in the interior side. We are pretty confident that it will receive good response from small entreprenuers," she told reporters after the launch of BSN's Alamesra branch in Likas near here on Monday.
The branch was opened by Sabah Assistant Finance Minister Donald Mojuntin. Present was BSN Deputy Chairman Datuk Nozirah Bahari. Norazian said BSN had so far disbursed RM165 million in micro financing loans throughout the country and would provide additional fund of RM180 million for this purpose this year.
Donald, in his speech, said the opening of BSN's new branch showed the bank's commitment to provide more comfortable environment to the customers when banking with BSN.
"I believe the opening of this new branch in Alamesra will definitely offer the community of more than 40,000 people with easy banking access," he said.
He thanked BSN for providing mobile banking services to reach out those people living in the rural areas such as Kota Marudu, Kinabatangan and Beluran. Earlier, Nozirah said BSN was actively improving and upgrading its branch network and banking services to better serve the communities in the country.
She said the upgrading of the entire branch network branch played an important role in the overall implementation of the branch rationalisation programme. Nozirah said that the new locations were identified based on a growing township area and its rapid business development. -- BERNAMA
