August IPI at 110.6 from 107.4 year-on-year
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's Industrial Production Index (IPI) increased 3% to 110.6 in August, from 107.4 recorded in the same month last year, and was up 2.6% against July, the Statistics Department said today.
It said the increase in August was due to increases in the manufacturing and electricity indices of 4.8% and 1.4%, respectively.
However, the index of mining posted a decrease of 1.4%.
The manufacturing output for August rose 4.8%, year-on-year (y-o-y), and increased 2.1% when compared with a month earlier.
The department attributed the better manufacturing output in August to increases in petroleum, chemical, rubber and plastic products (12.1%); non-metallic mineral products, basic metal and fabricated mineral products (14%) and wood products, furniture, paper products and printing (5.4%).
The mining sector output decreased marginally by 1.4% in August, y-o-y, due to the decrease in crude oil index (5.4%).
Meanwhile, the electricity output increased 1.4% for the month under review when compared with a year ago figures and decreased 3.7% when compared with July.
