Adopt social media as communication tool, employees told
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 14 (Bernama) -- Companies undergoing changes due to challenging economic times should adopt social media as a communication medium to deliver a unique employee and community experience, says an employee engagement consultant.
Dr Adam Wootton, a senior consultant with US-based Towers Watson, a leading global professional services company, said social media was increasingly becoming an important tool to engage diverse and dispersed workforce.
He said savvy companies were taking notice that the social media was emerging not only as the next frontier of innovative communication with employees but also customers, suppliers, retailer and traders.
"They are quickly chanelling the wisdom and energy of social media into smart business applications," he told Bernama after a half-day seminar on "Leveraging Social Networking To Drive Performance" for human resource practioners here today.
He also said the social media can be incorporated by human resource personnel in their communication strategy to build and improve their employer brand in order to attract, engage and retain employees.
"As employees feel the brunt of organisational changes, companies should ensure these changes are well explained and justified," he added.
Meanwhile, Towers Watson Malaysia Managing Director Lim Chin Han said Malaysians have the most Facebook friends which indicated that the social media was a part of life and can be used in a corporate setting.
"Organisations which don't use social media as a tool to enhance employee communication will lose out," he added.
