60 Cameron Highlands Small And Medium Farmers In Contract Farming

CAMERON HIGHLANDS, April 10 (Bernama) -- Sixty small and medium farmers in  Cameron Highlands are now participatingin a Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) programme that ensuresagricultural returns.

Participation is based on a Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) in Cameron Highlands, a tourist spot also well known as a producer ofvegetables, tea, fruits and local flowers, said the deputy-director of FamaSahbani Saimin to participants of the programme who were said to be exposed toland registration contracts by way of electronic means whereby their details asregard to land matters can be registered on-line.

Fama also reminded that it will aid farmers to enhancetheir agriculture output to be on par as to international level.

"We also give priority to three main commoditiesthat have export potential namely Cameron lime, tomatoes, and cabbage as thesehave wide marketing potential," he said after a signing of a Memorandum ofUnderstanding.

As a beginning, he said the produce would be sent toSingapore before being  marketedinternationally.

He said the programme reflected a platform to aid farmerson a small and medium scale to ensure a fair income.
