48 Franchises Developed Under 9Th Malaysia Plan

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 10 (Bernama) -- A total of 48 franchises were developed under the Ninth Malaysia Plan, of which 43 were Bumiputeras, said the Malaysia Franchise Association (MFA).

"Number of total franchisee also increased from 3,541 to 6,083 after the implementation of the Ninth Malaysia Plan.

"The active involvement of Bumiputeras in the franchise industry clearly reflects the accurate long-term vision of former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir," MFA said in a statement Tuesday.

As of July, 454 franchise companies were registered by the Registrar of Franchise.

"There were 116 registered franchise companies in 2000. The record indicates that 29 per cent or 132 are Bumiputeras," it added.

MFA also paid tribute to Tun Mahathir for his initiatives in bringing rapid growth to the local franchise industry.

It added the hefty increase in the number of franchisors registered with the Registrar of Franchise was a good indication of the industry's healthy growth over a period of ten years.
