16-Hectare Land For Two Factories In Batu Rakit

KUALA TERENGGANU, Jan 25 (Bernama) -- The Terengganu government has alloted a 16-hectare land for two factories -- one to process fish while the other to produce fish fertiliser -- at the Batu Rakit industrial area here.

State Small and Medium Industry Committee Chairman Toh Chin Yaw said the project would be carried out in two phases with the first involving four hectares and an investment amounting to RM45 million.

Phase One of the project would start in mid-2010 and was expected to be fully operational by yearend, he told reporters after the signing of an agreement between AHT Fish Meal Industries Sdn Bhd and Korea's GP 21 Spectrum LLC Monday.

It would create jobs for the locals and a positive step towards developing fish-based industries as the local workers would be trained to operate high-tech equipment from Korea, he said.

AHT Fish Meal plans to produce about 5,000 tonnes of three product types, namely fish ball, fish cake and fish meal. "We will need about 15,000 tonnes of fresh fish monthly for our operation and we will get it from fishermen along the east and west coasts as well as from Thailand," said AHT Fish Meal Managing Director Datuk Abdullah Taib.

GP 21 Spectrum LLC Chairman Ha Kwang Ho said the company picked Terengganu for its operation because it stood in the middle between Kelantan and Pahang. "Based on that, we believe the raw material is enough to support our operation here," he added. -- BERNAMA
