1,200 SMEs To Get Insight On 'Agensi Inovasi Malaysia Bill'

PETALING JAYA, Jan 21 (Bernama) -- About 1,200 small-and-medium enterprises (SMEs) and business community leaders nationwide are expected to attend a briefing on the 'Agensi Inovasi Malaysia Bill 2010' cum Chinese New Year open house hosted by the SMI Association of Malaysia at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (C) Sungai Way here, on Feb 11.

SMI Association of Malaysia's national president Chua Tiam Wee said Unit Inovasi Khas's chief executive officer Datuk Dr Kamal Jit Singh would give the briefing and explaining how the act could facilitate innovation and development sharing between SMEs through various government incentives and support.

Chua said the event would be the best platform for SMEs to be clear about the act as innovation had been identified as the key to drive the nation's economy growth.

He said SMEs, which contributed 35 per cent of the nation's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), 57 per cent of the total employment and 20 per cent of total export currently, should embrace innovation and grasp various incentives provided by the government if they wanted to grow and achieve a high income economy.

Speaking at a news conference here to announce on the hosting of the Chinese New Year Open House and the briefing Friday, Chua said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and several cabinet ministers including Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili were among those expected to attend the open house.
